Kunimare Tokubetsu Junmai Sake

A Special Sip Nurtured by the Northern Land

Kunimare Tokubetsu Junmai Sake is a distinguished product from Kunimare Sake Brewery, the northernmost sake brewery in Japan, located in Mashike, Hokkaido. This historic brewery has been in operation since the late Edo period and was established in Mashike, a town that once thrived as a herring fishing hub. Benefiting from the rich natural environment and high-quality water, this sake is made using 100% “Gohyakumangoku,” a rice variety ideal for sake brewing, to fully enhance the flavor of the rice. Crafted with unwavering passion since its inception, it remains a beloved local sake cherished by the community.

The Appeal of a Crisp and Dry Flavor

This Tokubetsu Junmai Sake is characterized by its medium-dry profile with an alcohol content of 15.5%, offering a clean and refreshing taste despite being a junmai sake. The rounded and calm flavor of the Gohyakumangoku rice gently spreads in the mouth. The robust flavor, shaped by the harsh waves of the Sea of Japan, captivates and holds the drinker’s heart. While the rich taste of the rice is prominent, the aftertaste is refreshing, making it an excellent match for any cuisine.

Recommended Ways to Enjoy

Kunimare Tokubetsu Junmai Sake can be enjoyed both chilled and at room temperature, each offering its own unique appeal. Chilling the sake particularly enhances its crisp and dry flavor, making it a delightful pairing with meals. It pairs well not only with Japanese cuisine but also with Western and Chinese dishes, adding a vibrant touch to your dining experience. Relish this special sip, nurtured by the historic land of Mashike, to your heart’s content.

  • A robust flavor nurtured by gazing at the rough waves of the Sea of Japan!

Kunimare Tokubetsu Junmai Sake is crafted by Kunimare Sake Brewery, located in Mashike Town, Hokkaido, near Rumoi City. Mashike is a fishing town overlooking the Sea of Japan. This sake has a rich history, having been cherished by the seafaring men of the area since the Meiji era (1868-1912). The Mashike mountain range, which stretches through the town, provides pristine water that forms clear streams and contributes to the pure underground water of the Shokanbetsu River, used in brewing Kunimare sake. Although it is a junmai sake, it has a crisp, dry taste and a refreshing finish that allows you to directly appreciate the purity of the water and the rich flavor of the rice. It pairs excellently with simple dishes like grilled squid or salt-grilled fish, enhancing the flavors of both.
